Baa Baa brown sheep

I've promised myself that I will finish Dave's aran for Christmas. Barring any tragedy, I am in good shape: I have a front and back sans neck/shoulder shaping as I must do some careful planning first. I am flying through the cables at this point. It used to take me about 1.5 hours to do 4 rows and now I can do 8 rows in that amount of time or less. Did I mention how awesome cabling without a cable needle is? Anyway, that is why I haven't posted recently. Nothing exciting to report as all other projects are on hold until I finish the aran.

However, I did come away with some nice loot over Thanksgiving weekend. I have an aunt and uncle who have 2 sheep. Every year the sheep get sheered and the wool gets bagged and put into the barn. They finally found someone to process that wool into yarn. All the knitters in the family received a skein from the first batch. I choose the brown wool from Wilbur the sheep. I think he'll make a nice hat or mittens.

Emergency knits!

It suddenly got quite cold out and poor Owen didn't have a hat or mittens. Luckily I had purchased some yarn just for that purpose from Morehouse Merino at Rhinebeck. Here they are:

Yarn: Morehouse Merino 2 ply
Patterns: Ann Budd's The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns, toddler sizes
Needles: Size 5

Yeah, he won't wear the mittens. I hope when it gets really cold enough he will learn to appreciate them!

Now I can easily knit on the go!

Thanks again, Annie! And no pressure, but you haven't blogged in a while ;)
